Youth Ministry at University Presbyterian Church

A Supportive Space for Middle and High School Students

At University Presbyterian Church (UPC), we recognize that Middle School (grades 6–8) and Senior High (grades 9–12) students navigate a complex world filled with pressures from family, friends, school, and society. This pivotal time in their lives is marked by self-discovery, identity formation, and big questions about their future. Our Youth Ministry is dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where young people can explore their faith, build meaningful relationships, and grow into their unique selves, all while being supported by our vibrant church community.

Our goal is to empower youth to develop a strong sense of purpose and belonging, grounded in Christian values. Through engaging programs, service opportunities, and fellowship, we help students find their place in our church family and equip them to face life’s challenges with confidence and compassion.

Youth Programs and Activities

Our Youth Ministry offers a variety of opportunities designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of Middle and High School students. These include:

  • Sunday Youth Group: Held on Sunday afternoons during the school year, our youth gatherings feature interactive discussions, games, and activities that explore faith, build community, and address relevant topics for teens. Check our Youth Ministry page for schedules and details.

  • Service and Outreach: We encourage youth to live out their faith through service projects, such as local mission trips, volunteering with community organizations, or participating in UPC’s outreach initiatives. These experiences foster empathy and a heart for service.

  • Fellowship Events: From game nights and retreats to lock-ins and outings, our youth enjoy fun, relationship-building activities that create lasting memories and friendships.

  • Worship Participation: Youth are invited to take active roles in our Sunday worship services (11:00 a.m. fall/spring, 10:00 a.m. summer), whether through reading scripture, leading prayers, or contributing music, helping them feel valued and connected in worship.

Confirmation: A Journey of Faith

Our Confirmation program is a cornerstone of our Youth Ministry, offering 8th and 9th grade students a meaningful opportunity to explore their faith and deepen their understanding of what it means to be part of UPC and the broader Presbyterian Church (USA). Typically offered as the need arises, this program is tailored to guide students through a transformative journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth.

During Confirmation, students:

  • Ask Big Questions: Engage in open, honest discussions about faith, God, and their role in the church and world.

  • Learn About UPC: Gain insight into our congregation’s values, ministries, and community life.

  • Explore Presbyterian Identity: Understand the beliefs, structure, and mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

  • Build Community: Connect with peers and mentors in a supportive, encouraging environment.

At the conclusion of the program, students have the opportunity to affirm their faith and become full members of UPC, joining our church family in a meaningful commitment to faith and service. For more details on the Confirmation schedule or to express interest, contact our church office at [insert contact info] or visit our Youth Ministry page.

A Safe and Inclusive Environment

At UPC, we prioritize creating a safe and inclusive space where every youth feels valued and respected. Our Youth Ministry leaders are trained and background-checked to ensure a secure environment, and we foster a culture of openness where students can share their thoughts, doubts, and dreams without judgment. Whether a student is new to faith, questioning, or deeply committed, they are welcomed with open arms.

We also encourage youth to bring their friends, ensuring our programs are accessible to all, regardless of church affiliation. Our fully accessible facilities, including ramps, an elevator, and handicap parking, ensure that everyone can participate fully.

Partnering with Families

We believe that nurturing a young person’s faith is a collaborative effort between the church and families. Our Youth Ministry works closely with parents and guardians to provide resources, updates, and opportunities for family involvement. From parent meetings to family-oriented events, we strive to support families as they guide their teens through this formative stage of life.
